What you may do with the free and paid resources, and what the practice tools are and are not.

What this is

HQ Society publishes HSC languages resources for NSW teachers and their students: trial papers with marking guidelines and listening audio, and browser tools for rehearsing the speaking exams. Using anything on this site means you are happy with what follows.

What you may do with the free resources

Use them with your own classes, as much as you like. Print them, put them in your course folder, run them as a practice exam, edit the Word files to suit your cohort. What we ask is that you do not resell them, do not republish them as your own, and do not post them somewhere they can be scraped and sold by someone else. The trial papers are teacher copies, so please hand students the paper rather than the marking guidelines.

What you may do with the paid papers

A paid paper is licensed to the school that bought it, for that school's own teaching. Everyone on your faculty may use it and every student in the course may sit it. It does not extend to another campus, another school in a group, or a tutoring business.

The practice tools are practice

The mock orals and the trainers are rehearsal, not assessment. The feedback they produce is generated by a language model. It is genuinely useful for rehearsal and it is not a mark, not a prediction, and not a substitute for a teacher's judgement. Do not use anything these tools produce as evidence for reporting or for a school assessment task.

We are not affiliated with NESA and nothing here is endorsed by NESA. Our papers are written to the syllabus by experienced NSW teachers, and the official syllabus and past papers remain the authority.

Using the tools with a class

The tools need no account and ask for no personal details, so there is nothing for a student to sign up to. Deciding whether a tool is appropriate for your students, and whether your school's own policies require anything of you first, is your school's call. We will answer any question your IT or executive team has, in as much detail as they want. See our privacy notice for exactly what the tools do with data.

Availability

The tools are free and they are new. They depend on services we do not control, so they can be slow, and occasionally they can be down. If one matters to a lesson, try it the day before. We give no warranty and we are not liable for a lesson that does not go to plan. If something is broken, tell us and we will fix it.

The Chinese Beginners trainer questions come from the NSW Department of Education practice bank, used under CC BY 4.0 and attributed on that page.
